Tax Planning and Consulting

Paul at Coastal Professional Accounting LLC is available throughout the year for help with tax planning. Some items to consider include:

  • Don’t forget to make your last estimated tax payment for the year (generally due mid-January of the following year). Determine if you need to make any adjustments to tax withholding or estimated payments (we can help with this).
  • Discuss/consider whether qualified charitable distributions (QCDs) from your IRA are appropriate for you if you are age 70½ or older.
  • Make maximum contributions to your employer retirement accounts. If contributing to your IRA, the deadline is April 15 of the following year.
  • Sell securities by the last trading day of the year, to realize a capital gain or loss. Consider tax-loss harvesting,
  • Remember to take your Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) from retirement accounts this year, if applicable.
  • Complete any Roth IRA conversions.
  • Remember to use funds in FSA accounts, which are “use-it-or-lose-it.”
  • Make gifts to individuals or charities. The annual gift tax exclusion amount for 2023 gifts to individuals is $17,000 and $18,000 for 2024 (you can give more but may need to file gift tax return).
  • Create or add funds to your education savings program.
